Conversation is a large part of our work. It’s how we make sense of the human condition we uncover in ourselves. It’s integral to grounding the effect that theatre and art has on us. Now more than ever we are easily distracted from looking at how, what and why the art has effected us. Having a space and structure to dig deeper for the answers, makes spaces like Gracemoon critical to our mental and physical health as individuals and as communities.

Each play at the Gracemoon Theatre finishes in our salon for a real-time discussion about the play, but more importantly the subject matter and the conversation. Putting art into action.

Bushwick has welcomed more artists in the last 10 years than any other burrough in New York. Artists are humanitarian by nature and at Gracemoon it’s our mission. We exist to understand our humanity at the deepest levels and report back in stories to our communities and to the world. The Gracemoon Arts Company is devoted to giving back to Bushwick. Teaching, storytelling and creating in a safe space, free from judgment and hate.

Acting changes lives, and has. At Gracemoon we experience it daily. Moments of self expression and self-awareness can alter a person’s life, and give them the possibility to realize their potential. Gracemoon Theatre offers classes and mentorship in • Acting • Writing • Directing. We’re committed to developing outreach programs with Bushwick’s youth.

Over the past 25 years, Michèle Lonsdale•Smith, a student of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute NY in the 80s, has developed acting exercises and expanded on old ones. There was and is further to go. The proof is in the depth of storytelling and acting she and her company are capable of creating time and time again. Now it’s time to invite the world to experience it.

THE COMPANY’S PURPOSE IS TO EXPLORE OUR MOST HIDDEN AND UNRESOLVED HUMAN MOTIVATIONS AND DESIRES THROUGH THE ART OF ACTING. TO UNDERSTAND WHY WE SAY AND DO THE THINGS WE SAY AND DO. TO COURAGEOUSLY TELL THE TRUTH THROUGH THE STORIES WE WRITE AND ACT, EVEN AT THIER MOST DISTURBING. TO ENCOURAGE COMPASSION
AND HUMOR FOR OUR HUMANITY AND FOR THE MANY MORE
WAYS WE ARE THE SAME THAN DIFFERENT.

TO CONTRIBUTE TO A MORE HUMANE WORLD, AND THEREBY
HURT OURSELVES AND OTHERS LESS.
